![]() ![]() CDT3 was flown to Da Nang after being relieved from Vung Tau by South Vietnamese Navy personnel in August 1970. Six US Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team personnel were the first to arrive in Vietnam on February 6, 1967, after initially joining the team from Saigon. This dive team was part of a larger naval contribution to the Vietnam War. In addition, other RAN personnel served as medics or staff at the Australian Embassy in Vietnam. ![]() ![]() Destroyers, Fleet Air Arm personnel, and a Clearance Diving Team were among the primary contributors. The RAN remained in Vietnam during the period from 1965 to 1972. In total, over 500,000 Navy personnel served in Vietnam during the conflict. The Navy also conducted a wide range of combat operations in the region, including air strikes, naval bombardment, and coastal patrols. Navy played a vital role in the Vietnam War, providing essential logistical support and personnel to the U.S. ![]()
